Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Since I've been testing this out over the past month or so I have had such a love/hate relationship with it. I've never had so many emotions over a foundation. It's been real.

I bought this in early January expecting to love it. There are very few bad reviews in the blogging world so I was almost certain that it would be wonderful. The foundation itself is a full coverage with a natural matte finish. It conceals redness and uneven pigmentation well, it blends fairly easily, controls oil and it really does stay in place. In theory it should be one of the greatest foundations in my collection, but sadly, it is not.

The first time I try a foundation I like to do so without using any other base products (no powders or primers etc) to really see what it's like and the first time I used this, it bunched up and separated around my nose and chin, it clung to every imperfection but particularly dry patches and did absolutely no favours for my skin at all. It was one of the worst foundations I'd tried in recent memory. The next time I used it was a completely different story. I applied a primer beforehand to see if that would combat the foundation accentuating dry patches I had and not only did it do that, but it made it seem like an entirely different foundation. I got to see the beautiful natural matte finish properly, it glided over and concealed blemishes and dry patches and left my skin looking even, healthy and radiant.

As someone who doesn't wear a primer everyday this isn't going to be something I pick up often but for oil control I can see it being handy for days (and nights) when I need something a little more heavy duty. When I've used this up I don't think I'll be in a rush to repurchase it. I think there are better full coverage foundations out there and this one didn't do it for me. Since there are so many great reviews I'm lead to believe that the problems I've had with this are more down to me than the foundation so don't let me sway you if this is on your wishlist. Just be prepared that you're probably going to need a primer.

Have you tried this foundation? What do you think of it?

  1. I swear by primers. No foundation will stay put on my oily skin without one! Try Porefessional by Benefit, or the Smashbox line. They're amazing!

  3. I definitely want to try this since I have such oily skin so a natural matte finish would be perfect :)

  4. Great review - I haven't tried this one yet but may pass on it as I don't tend to use primer daily either!
