NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Collection

As I said in my haul a couple of weeks ago, once upon a time I'm sure I owned at least 6 of these but as I searched through my make up collection they were no where to be found. Heartbroken, I ordered some asap.

Nail Favourites #5

I am seriously loving nude & neutrals nails at the moment especially with an accent nail or two. Since the sun has made an appearance in London I've been leaning more towards brighter and paler shades in my collection and I have been constantly swapping between Mademoiselle and Lilacism. Both are beautiful, fresh bright shades (obviously by Essie) that are perfect for this time of year.

Rock At The Top is one of my most used nail polishes. I'm a complete sucker for glitter nails and my recent addiction to all things gold has meant that I've been using this even more. It's such a lovely top coat to add a little something to your nails and even better packed on as much as possible, or at least that's how I like to wear it.

If you have any suggestions for any nude or neutral polishes from any brand I would love to hear them. I'm always on the look out for more to add to my collection even if I am running out of places to store them.

What have you been wearing on your nails recently?

Top Beauty Picks of 2015

Better late than never right? Maybe? Anyway after much delay, here are my most favourite finds in the beauty world from last year.

Starting with face stuff the Balance Me Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm is incredible. I love this product so much I'd go as far to say I couldn't live without it. It removes make up beautifully leaving your skin fresh and smooth. It's a winner and one to try if you haven't already.

Estee Lauder's DayWear has remained unchanged in my skin care routine since last January. Sometimes it's difficult to find a good moisturiser that works well with my skin as it's oily and prone to breakouts but I have never had an issue with this whatsoever which is why I think my skin care draw has never been without it. It's a fairly heavy duty cream but doesn't linger on the skin. It smells heavenly (or of cucumber if you wan't to be specific) and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. Oily skin gals especially, put this one on your wishlist -you need to try it!

Foundations - oh boy I've tried a lot of foundations this year. As much as I love my YSL Touche Eclat I much prefer the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum. I think I was late to the party having only tried this foundation last Summer but I bloody love it. It's light, fresh and natural and ticks every box for what I want from a foundation. Surprisingly it's also the best foundation for matching my skin tone I have ever tried, which is always a plus. Well done Bourjois!

Still with me? Great, let's talk about concealers. There is not a single concealer in my collection that even comes close to this one. The Clarins Instant Concealer is wonderful. I won't go into the 3 million reasons I love it because I've already reviewed it but here's the run down. It's brightening, doesn't crease, blends beautifully, sits on top/under foundation even more beautifully and lasts ages - on the skin and in the tube. It's truly the best concealer I've ever used.

As for powders from 2015, I tried a tonne. Some were great, some not so much but the stand out for me was the Urban Decay De Slick powder, despite it's intimidatingly white appearance. It's perfects the skin, makes make up last longer and gets rid of shine instantly and forever (or that's what it seems like). It's just all round wonderful.

I only really started appreciating blushes this year and on a whim I picked up 2 Bobbi Brown ones. They are both incredible and have fully converted me to being an avid blush wearer and collector. My favourite out the two and of all the other blushes I've tried so far is Tawny. It's a beautiful smoky mauve/pink. It blends beautifully, has wonderful pigmentation and I'm desperate to try more blushes this year from Bobbi Brown and from every other brand too!

Eyebrows. My greatest nemesis. I don't have a whole lot to say here. It was always going to be the Dipbrow by Anastasia Beverly Hills. There are other brow products I like and use but none of them compare to this.

Mascaras are my drug of choice. I have A LOT of them. I would say it was hard to choose between them all but really Too Faced's Better Than Sex mascara is unchallenged within my mascara collection. It does everything I want a mascara to do and more. If you haven't already given in to the hype and bought it then I highly recommend adding it to your collection.

A new discovery for me last year was MAC's paint pots. I have oily skin in general but my eyelids are another story. Eyeshadows crease on me like a mother and no amount of primer potion would fix it. I tried eye primers from Smashbox and Nars and nothing worked until this. It creates a perfect and flawless base for eyeshadow and keeps it there all day what more could you possibly want? I love it and without a doubt it was the best addition to my make up stash last year.

I go through phases where I wear false lashes to absolute death and then won't touch them for a year. My favourites of all time and of last year were Red Cherry lashes. They are so beautiful and completely inexpensive (I get mine from eBay for £2.99). If you want some recommendations these are all lovely - 747 S, DW, 415, WSP, 218, 213.

And finally lips. I could sit here and list red lipsticks all day long but the stand out in my lipstick collection was Mehr from MAC. It's not a MAC lipstick you hear about very often and I have absolutely no idea why. It's a dark, dusky pink with cool undertones that looks great on everyone I've seen wear it. If you're looking to expand your MAC lipstick collection (and let's face it who isn't?!) this is definitely one to consider.

If you read all of that then give yourself a pat on the back and a round of applause.

What were your stand out products from last year?

Nail Favourites #4

Models Own Utopia £5 - Topshop Exhibit  £5 - Essie Chinchilly £7.99 - Essie Lilacism £7.99

Can you tell I'm in a nude mood? I always find that I make my way through my collection and without fail end up back at the neutral shades. They're easy to wear, go with everything and suit any season or situation. Got a job interview? Party? Staying in your pyjamas all day? Neutrals are the way to go.

Utopia by Model's Own, which I don't think they make anymore but I found it on a random website, is my all time favourite. It's a beautiful grey nude with a hint of pink. The formula of Model's Own polishes is wonderful and even a shade as light as this one only needs one coat.

As always there are some Essie appearances in this round of nail favourites. They make up half of my collection so it's no surprise you'll see one in pretty much every installment. Chinchilly, I believe, has already made it's way into one of these posts but I'm loving it all over again. It's a taupe/grey shade and one that I come back to all the time. Lilacism is (can you guess?) a lilac shade. It's a pretty pastel colour that may be more suited to Spring but I think looks great any time of year. I currently have it on my toes.

And finally a Topshop nail varnish in Exhibit. It's a deep red wine colour and a good old, stereotypical Autumn/Winter shade. I don't know what the difference in formulas is between this packaging and the original packaging but the formula with this black lid is incredible. It applies beautifully, is super glossy and lasts ages without chipping. If you're in a store (I couldn't find it anywhere online) and you see one of these nail polishes with this lid, buy it immeadiately.

What colour makes up most of your nail varnish collection? What's your favourite Essie shade?

Nail Favourites #3

Essie No More Film £7.99 - link
Essie Chillato £7.99 - link
Barry M Gelly Hi Shine in Chai £3.99 - link

These are 3 pretty recent additions to my nail polish stash and 3 that I am totally and completely obsessed with.
No more film is a beautiful deep navy shade and the only one in my collection. It is suited perfectly to the current season and makes a change to all the burgundy and berry shades floating around at the moment. This is fast becoming one of my favourite nail varnishes ever. Chillato, on the other hand I love equally as much but is pretty out of place in this season and this trio. When I saw it in Boots I couldn't snatch it off the stand fast enough. It was love at first sight, as sad as that may be to say about a nail polish. It's as streaky as a mothertrucker on application but I'm not sure anything could hinder my love for it. It's gorgeous. And finally a Barry M polish in the shade Chai. It's a grey-beige hybrid that looks great any time of year. I always have at least 4 or 5 of these kinds of shades in my collection and are easily my most worn polishes.

What have you been loving on your nails at the moment? Do you have a favourite shade for A/W?

Nail Favourites #2

Rimmel Salon Pro, Rock n Roll £4.49 -  link
Leighton Denny Maneater £11 - link
Maybelline Color Show, Sidewalk Strut £2.99 - link
Essie, Bahama Mama £7.99 - link

Bahama Mama is one I come back to all the time. It's a berry shade that looks gorgeous, especially in Autumn although I do wish that Essie polishes weren't so streaky - it drives me insane but it is something I'll begrudgingly overlook because of their colour selection. You can't beat Essie if you're looking for variety in your nail varnish collection.

As for the rest of the shades, they're pretty season neutral with a black from Leighton Denny, a good old red from Rimmel and a classic taupe nude from Maybelline. The formulas of all three are lovely and apply evenly and opaque in one coat. Maneater from Leighton Denny coming in at £11 is a pretty hefty price tag for a plain black nail varnish that I probably won't repurchase but I do love the formula.

If you haven't got any Maybelline color show nail polishes I would highly recommend having a look. They're one of the best formulas I've ever tried and at £2.99 I think they're pretty darn great.

What nail varnishes have you been loving? Do you have a shade that you always wear around this time of year?

Nail Favourites #1

L - R: Essie (Chinchilly), Topshop (Keepin' It Sweet) N/A, Nails Inc (St James), American Apparel (Office) N/A

My name is Aimey and I'm addicted to nail varnish. I have way too many for only 10 nails which means that I paint my nails all the time. Doing that though means I find some really lovely shades and formulas that I thought I'd share with you.

Essie - Chinchilly
Who doesn't love a good old nude? This one is more on the taupe kind of things and absolutely perfect for Autumn, but then again nudes can carry you through all the seasons. The formula is lovely although Essie polishes can be a bit of a hit and miss. This is one of my all time favourites and a colour that I come back to time and time again.

Topshop - Keepin' It Sweet
Pink polishes usually aren't my thing but I had this on my toes throughout Summer and it looked lovely. I don't see Topshop nail varnishes in the beauty world very often and I have no idea why. I'm a huge fan of Topshop beauty in general and I think their nail products are wonderful. They have a great selection, every one with a wonderful formula that doesn't chip at all (that could be down to my trusty Seche Vite though).

Nail Inc - St James
A gorgeous classic red. I've had to stop myself buying this exact shade in the new packaging because it's so beautiful but at £15 each, I don't think I'll be doubling up any time soon. Nails Inc formulas and colours are incredible and they're one of my top nail varnish brands, they've yet to disappoint me.

American Apparel - Office
I can't find these polishes anywhere online at all. I bought this and a couple of other shades in a store a few months ago but they seem to have vanished since then. The formula is nice, it applies opaque and there are no streaks in sight. I also really love the packaging and that the bottles are significantly bigger than your average. I have no idea how much these were but at a guess I think they're around £8. If you do ever have the chance to buy any, I'd recommend having a look - the colour selection is great and they are really lovely nail varnishes.

What are your nail favourites? Can you recommend any for Autumn?

Summer Essentials

In terms of beauty, Summer is a difficult season to get through. With your make up sliding down your face 20 minutes after applying it and your hair being frazzled by the sun I thought I'd share with you some of the products I couldn't be without in the burning London heat (that was obviously sarcasm, just in case you missed it).

sea salt spray

I really try to stay away from applying heat to my hair in the Summer as I think the heat from the sun is probably damaging enough without me adding to it so if I haven't shoved it up in a pineapple on top of my head I've used this. The one from Lush is my favourite. It smells of sweet lemons and isn't too drying as some salt sprays can be. You can buy it here for £9.95. The overall effect of using a salt spray is texture. It doesn't aid in curling your hair or holding curls etc is just gives you that beachy wave, textured look. Basically giving the illusion that you've made an effort when in reality it's taken you 2 seconds. The Bumble & bumble one is also really great I just don't use it as often because it doesn't really have a scent which I know some people will prefer but I like a little something to freshen up my hair, especially on day 2 or 3. You can buy the Bumble & bumble surf spray mini (50ml) from Boots here for £9.50.
I also really like this one from Lee Stafford for £7.99 and this one from Toni & Guy which is a texturising spray but does pretty much the exact same thing!

breath of fresh air toner

My hands down best friend in the Summer. I LOVE this. I'm sure Caudalie do a really similar if not identical product that I can't wait to try but this is absolutely wonderful. Despite saying that it's a toner it doesn't really do much for the skin for example there isn't any significant decrease in redness or glorious radiance but oh my god is it refreshing. It doesn't ruin your make up when you spray it on top so keeping this in my handbag for a refreshing spritz every now and again is essential for me. As the label says it truly is a sea breeze captured in a bottle. You can get it here from Lush for £7.95.

origins vitazing tinted moisturiser

Usually tinted moisturisers aren't very forgiving when it comes to my oily skin but this is beautiful. I'm head over heels for this whole range from Origins but I find myself picking this up more often than my other mositurisers during the Summer. It leaves the skin looking radiant and glowing and the sheer tint is enough for good skin days. SPF is obviously a must for all times of the year but more so in the Summer so the fact that this has SPF 15 is great. It provides a lovely base for foundation, feels completely weightless and sinks into the skin quickly so you don't have to worry about your face feeling tacky when you're trying to apply the rest of your make up. You can get it here  for £29.
Oh and just bare in mind that if you're using a moisturiser with SPF in it don't use a foundation, primer or any other base product with an SPF in it as they cancel each other out - a handy tip for you there if I do say so myself!

urban decay setting spray

We've all had to put it up with our make up lasting 5 minutes in the sunshine but are gone are the days of your make up sliding off your face. For us oily skin gals keeping make up on your face in the Winter is hard enough let alone in the Summer which is why I use this most of the year round, but there is no way I could live without this when the sun comes out. A few sprays of this keeps my make up in place for a lot longer than just dousing my face in powder. I have a mini version that I keep in my bag for touch ups during the day as using a powder is out of the question when you've been sweating. It isn't a good look - trust me. This doesn't hold your make up in place forever but will definitely add an hour or 2 to the length of time it will last. From experience, and I'm sure none of you are this stupid, avoid spraying it too close to your face because it makes for very patchy and dripping make up. You can buy it here for £21.

And that's all of my beauty essentials when it comes to Summer! Let me know if you'd like to see a make up version of this list.

Have you tried any of these?
