Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara & Giveaway (closed)

Hi I'm Aimey, and I am obsessed with mascara.
More than actually being obsessed with mascara itself, I'm obsessed with finding the right mascara. I'm looking for the one. The one that ticks every single one of all of my 300 overly specific boxes and I'm petrified to jinx it BUT, I think I've found it.

YSL Volume Effet False Cils Mascara

YSL mascaras are my all time favourites. Each and every one of them deliver high above expectations and I love them all. This is probably one of the most well known mascaras from the brand and the only one I hadn't tried before.

Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara

Mascara, like red lipstick, is something I am truly obsessed with. I'm so picky when it comes to mascara that finding one that ticks every box is like search for a needle in a stack of needles and disappointingly this one is lacking a few ticks.

This is by no means a bad mascara it just isn't what I'm looking for, but anyway, let me tell you more about it. It has bristle brush that picks up a really even amount of product (as long as you get rid of the excess at the tip) making for a great application. In one coat it adds a lot of length and separation but not much "drama" which is what I'm looking for over anything. It's fairly buildable although did start sticking a few of my lashes together by the second coat. I've worn it a few times and never noticed it flaking but did transfer to my lower lash line even when I hadn't applied it to my lower lashes. It lasts all day not that I can say I've ever used a mascara that hasn't and on paper it is a nice mascara, but to me it isn't anything special. It's just nice.

Having said all that, mascara is a make up product that is solely based on preference as to whether you like it or not so you could absolutely love this, but in my opinion I would say that there are much better mascaras you could spend £22 on.

Have you tried this? What's your favourite mascara?

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara £23 - link

It feels too long since I reviewed a mascara, so long that my eyelashes are almost twitching. I usually buy a bunch of them every 3 months and this time I've left it at least 6 as I've still been in love with the YSL Shocking mascara but it's most definitely time to try something else.
I had heard quite a lot about this mascara a few months ago with a fair few people saying it was one of the best from Bobbi Brown. I haven't tried any other mascaras from the brand (yet) but this seemed like a pretty good place to start.

This is one of the greatest mascaras for lengthening I've ever tried. In one coat my lashes seemed to double - it's incredible. It does however lack in adding any thickness or definition but building up layers soon fixes that problem. The formula is slightly dryer so clumping absolutely isn't an issue and you could go to town on coats and coats of this and be left with beautifully separated, completely un-spidery lashes. The brush is made up of bristles and is fairly small which makes it easier to be more precise and avoid the mascara on your eyelid fiasco - especially when you already have eyeshadow on (God help me). I'd say this mascara is the the perfect balance between natural and dramatic with the capabilities to make it look more like either end of the spectrum.

Around £20 is what I expect to pay for a higher end mascara and I usually do my research first so I won't be disappointed. I was a little surprised that this comes in at 2ml less than most mascaras in the same price range or even those that are £10 cheaper but I do think it's worth the money. I'm absolutely going to be trying more mascaras from the brand and if this is anything to go by, I can't wait.

Have you tried this mascara or any other from Bobbi Brown?

Are there any mascaras that you'd like to see me review?

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara £19 - link

I have waited forever and an eternity for this to be in stock. After hearing so much hype about it, albeit around a year ago now, I couldn't wait to try it.

I'm happy to report that this mascara is unbelievable. Obviously mascaras are very personal and everyone is looking for something different, but this mascara ticks all the right boxes for me.
The brush is huge and made up of a bristles which ticks boxes and 1 and 2. The brushes' shape coats that lashes evenly although does clump them at the root. That's usually how I wear my mascara anyway as I prefer a fuller look but I know it's  not appreciated by everyone. It lengthens lashes dramatically and adds a tonne of volume after just one coat. It is buildable but you absolutely have to let the first coat dry otherwise you're going to be left with some seriously spidery lashes.

Apart from the name being a bit of an overstatement I really love this mascara. I think it is totally worth the hype and I'd recommend trying it if you haven't already!

What do you think of this mascara? What kind of brush do you prefer?

Soap & Glory Thick And Fast Collagen Coat Mascara

Soap & Glory Thick And Fast High Definition Collagen Coat Mascara £10.50 - link

Once upon a time this was one of my favourite mascaras along with the Thick & Fast Super Volume mascara also by Soap & Glory (which I do still like) but after a months and a new tube of this I'm finding it hard to see why I liked it so much.

It's nice for separating lashes and doesn't smudge throughout the day which is great especially considering it's not waterproof, but after using this for a couple of weeks that's really all I've found that I like about it.

The formula is really wet which means that anything after one coat you're going to be left with spidery lashes that are all stuck together. Usually I'm a massive fan of bristle wands but this brush picks up a lot of product and the shape and size of it of it makes it hard to distribute evenly which just makes your lashes even more clumped together - it's really not a good look. It does add some volume to the lashes and is borderline okay at adding length but in comparison to other mascaras which are cheaper (and more expensive too) it doesn't come close at all and just seems like a complete waste of a tenner.

I personally love a mascara to give me quite a dramatic look with a lot of thickness and definition which this, again, doesn't do. Because it's not buildable it makes it difficult to use no matter what look you're going for or what you want from a mascara.

I'm not sure if they've changed the formula or if this is just a completely different product from the one I loved a year ago but I was super disappointed with this.

Lancome Hypnóse Star Mascara

Lancome Hypnóse Star Mascara (01 Black) £22.50 - link

I've had this mascara for a while now and I've been using it on and off trying to make up my mind if I like it or not.

If you've been here for a while you'll know that I much prefer bristle wands to plastic which is what drew me to this one. Lancome have a lot of variations of plastic wands and this is one of the few that doesn't and that's pretty much how this ended up in my collection. I really didn't do much research before I bought this at all and, as always, was slightly disappointed because of it.

The wand is tapered which makes it easier to get all of your lashes without getting it all over the place and ruining your eyeshadow and we all know how annoying that is so I do like that aspect of this product. The formula is nice - it's not too wet which prevents your lashes from clumping (initially.. keep reading) and it's not too dry that it's difficult to get any product out. It lengthens and separates really well and I've found it completely perfect for layering over fake eyelashes to make them look fuller and more natural. For reference I've been obsessed with the Red Cherry lashes recently but there'll be more on them later - keep your eyes peeled for a post. As for using this mascara on your lashes it seriously lacks in making them look fuller or thicker. I really like a mascara to give me that 'fake lashes look' as much as I hate the phrase and this doesn't achieve that at all. Of course everyone has different preferences but if that's what you look for in a mascara too then don't waste your money on this. Even when I tried layering this after two coats it started clumping my lashes and sticking them together, I was not impressed.

Overall this has good and bad aspects to it but just isn't what I'm looking for. Next time I try a Lancome mascara I think I'll take my chances with a plastic wand.

Too Faced LashGasm Mascara

Too Faced LashGasm Mascara £18 - link

After months of trying to get my hands on the Better Than Sex mascara (it's sold out everywhere - all the time) I finally settled on this one as my first Too Faced mascara. The packaging is lovely and the formula seems ok but I'm not a huge fan of plastic wands at the best of times and this mascara just further convinces me that they're not for me. I'd heard a lot of positive things about all of the mascaras from Too Faced so I didn't really put much thought into what one to buy in replacement of the Better Than Sex so that's why I bought this one. Unfortunately.

While it's pretty good for separating the lashes it doesn't pick up much product at all so trying to get any volume or thickness with this wand is practically impossible. It does add some length which is good but really not very much compared to other mascaras that cost only £2 or £3 more or actually even £10 less. Having said that the length and separation make for a minimal, natural 'fluttery lashes' look that can be nice but not what I'm personally looking for in a mascara. I am a little disappointed that I bought this truth be told although, luckily, it was in the sale so I didn't spend the whole £18. I must say that it does, however, work really well on my lower lashes so I'm happy to keep and use it for that - at least that's something anyway.

I still hold hope for the Better Than Sex mascara because it does have the bristle wand that I'm oh so fond of and there will be a review on that whenever I finally get the chance to buy it!

YSL Shocking Mascara

YSL Shocking Mascara 01 Deep Black £24.50 - link

Oh boy do YSL have mascaras down. I honestly can't think of one other brand where every single one of their mascaras is amazing.

This is now my third tube of this mascara. It's so great for adding thickness and volume to your lashes. The formula is really thick which I've found helps to get all the things you want out of a mascara without sticking them together and leaving you looking like you have just three lashes.
Usually I have to stick to waterproof mascaras because throughout the day it transfers to under my eyes (another great bonus for those of us with oily skin) but this doesn't. It looks just as great at the end of the day to when you put it on hours before. I've read a couple of reviews about this having dried out really quickly but it's never happened to me, so maybe I'm just lucky!

The price can be a little off putting but if I ever recommend a mascara it's this one - or really any from YSL! The packaging is beautiful, they smell great (if that makes a difference at all) and they add volume, thickness, length and all of the above.

Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara

Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara £19.50 - link

I'm sure you know by now that I am a little (lot) obsessed with mascaras. I have no idea why - I just love 'em.

I've had this floating about for a while and I'm not too sure where I got the sample from - maybe a beauty box but who knows, the full size is on it's way to me from SpaceNK and I can't wait.

I LOVE this mascara. It's incredible and I haven't really seen any other reviews about it, unless I'm just late to the party, but this is potentially the greatest mascara for length and volume I've ever tried.

The wand is bristles not plastic (which I prefer) and the shape makes it perfect to coat every lash. The formula isn't clumpy at all but where it is great for length it fails slightly in thickness. It is definitely buildable though and even suggests two coats for maximum potential.

It retails at £19.50 which I think is really reasonable in comparison to other high end mascaras that usually cost around £22.

I can't recommend this enough, it's amazing and definitely deserves more credit.

Review: Jane Iredale Longest Lash Mascara

I mentioned this in one of my what I've bought recently posts a couple of weeks ago and said that this is the most expensive mascara I had ever bought. So, was it worth the money?

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but I don't think it is. Even for a mascara obsessive like me who could justify spending £100 on a mascara, this is not worth £26.
Let's first talk about what it does do. It achieves a really natural lash look, my lashes were separated well and were coated in a great pigmentation of true black. It also didn't make my lashes crispy which isn't easy to come by in the mascara world but that's it I'm afraid. I don't have anything else good to say about it.

For £26 I'm expecting good things. When I invest in a high end product it does hurt that little bit more when it doesn't live up to it's price tag. The name would suggest that it lengthens your lashes and it does slightly but I have mascaras that are less than half the price of this one that make more of a difference. It also doesn't give any thickness or definition to the lashes which is something I enjoy in a mascara. I personally like my lashes to look similar to the effect you get from false lashes but that isn't something you can expect from this mascara and the same goes for volume.

This is all just my preference and opinion though and I can see lots of people enjoying this for what it is. It just doesn't give me what I want from a mascara and I wouldn't recommend that anyone spends £26 on this, there are so many better mascaras out there for a fraction of the price.

Are there any mascaras that you haven't liked?

Lots of love.
